The DESIGN-IT project, led by Spindox as the principal contractor, has received formal approval from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) to access funds outlined in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Costs exceeding 2.6 million euros will be funded over 36 months, with 1.6 million allocated to Spindox. In collaboration with CNR, MISTER Smart Innovation, and Reepack, the project aims to develop a decision support platform extensively employing artificial intelligence techniques.
Spindox S.p.A., a leading company in the market of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) services and products for the digital innovation of businesses, officially announces the formal approval of the DESIGN-IT project by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy for funding under PNRR, within Mission 4 (Education and Research), Component 2 (From Research to Enterprise). The project, identified by protocol number 69, Public Notice Agreements for Innovation DM 31/12/2021 – I sportello, has Spindox as the principal contractor and involves three other partners: ISMN-CNR, Mister Smart Innovation, and Reepack. The total investment by the four partners amounts to 5,392,557.50 euros, with a total facilitation of 2,683,607.62 euros, including 1,619,859.38 euros as a non-repayable grant for Spindox. This contribution will finance the development of a decision support platform extensively using artificial intelligence techniques.
The DESIGN-IT project (DEcision Science desIGN platform for digItal Twins) aims to develop a decision support platform using various artificial intelligence techniques and applying the concept of the digital twin pervasively. The goal is to enhance the capabilities of operators in making complex decisions and enable users to design and generate new artificial intelligence-based applications with a zero-code approach, without necessarily being experts in software development. The platform aims to facilitate the design and production of artificial intelligence-based applications in the industrial sector, with particular attention to human-machine collaboration in contexts characterized by strong automation, such as the field of robotics. The platform will be tested in scenarios of continuous and productive interaction between human intelligence and the precision, reliability, and power of robotics, through the availability of digital twins at multiple levels and optimization and prediction services based on artificial intelligence.
The main research and development areas of the project include the creation of digital twins through connected simulation techniques, zero-code programming to allow for the design, configuration, production, and operation of IT solutions without the need for software expertise, and an ecosystem of artificial intelligence-based services with algorithmic modules based on machine learning and mathematical optimization inspired by criteria such as explainability, reliability, fairness, and robustness. Spindox will act as the principal contractor in partnership with the Institute for the Study of Nanostructured Materials of CNR (Bologna branch), the MISTER Smart Innovation consortium, and Reepack.
